About Big Sky 55+
Big Sky 55+ is a non-profit statewide grassroots organization with (c3), (c4) and PAC activities.
We are an organization of Montanans 55 and older who are mobilizing our voices, experience, and power to make our state a better place for current and future generations, and to advance the dignity of all. This is a full-time salaried position with benefits based in Helena, Montana.
Summary
The Executive Director is the organization’s chief executive officer reporting to the Big Sky 55+ Board of Directors. This person leads a vibrant team working on social change issues relevant to older Americans in a dynamic political climate.
Qualifications

Committed to grassroots organizing, recognizing the role of staff in a member-driven organization.

Ability to travel and be away overnight.

Willingness to work long hours when needed.

Ability to delegate responsibilities and monitor program effectiveness.

Competence in managing external contracts and deliverables.
Also helpful

Experience in a political campaign.

General familiarity with the workings of legislative bodies and government agencies.

Familiarity with issues related to aging, health care, and quality of life.

Montana knowledge and experience.
Principle duties and responsibilities
-
Provide the leadership and vision for the organization working closely with the Board of Directors.

Ensure that the directives and goals set by the Board of Directors are carried out.

Manage the day-to-day operations of Big Sky 55+ and ensure that the organization recruits, hires, trains, and fosters its staff, with fluctuating staff positions based on current needs.

Ensure that the organization operates within the Board-approved budget and that sufficient and appropriate internal and external fundraising is done to meet the organization’s financial needs.

Significant travel, both daylong and overnight trips, around the state of Montana and out-of-state

Additional responsibilities include managing a Political Action Committee.
Required Job Qualifications:

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience with non-profit accounting.

Experience in employee supervision and fundraising required.

Access to a vehicle, ability to drive, and ability to travel overnight.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary for the position is $80,000 - $85,000 (depending on experience) and includes generous benefits including health insurance, paid holidays, sick leave and annual leave.
