Butte-Anaconda-Missoula Area Regional Organizer

Big Sky 55+ is seeking a qualified Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer to work with a diverse coalition of stakeholders to build membership in a person-to-person organizing program. 

 

Big Sky 55+’s Political Director will provide day-to-day oversight of the Regional Organizers.

 

Successful applicants will demonstrate a passion for empowering people and a history of volunteer engagement and work with diverse coalitions.

 

The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer will be responsible for executing aspects of relational organizing in the campaign, including prospecting, recruiting and training volunteers, and scheduling member engagement activities.

 

Typical activities in a day for the Regional Organizers may include:

  • Direct outreach to members through phone calls, emails, and text messages

  • Organizing & staffing in-person informational events

  • Coordinating & training volunteers to do small-group presentations, knock doors, make phone calls, submit LTEs, etc.

  • Attending regular campaign strategy meetings

  • Building new membership for the organization

 

The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer must reside in Silver Bow, Deer Lodge, Powell, Jefferson, Granite, Ravalli, or Missoula Counties, with a preference for locations outside the city of Missoula.

 

Must be willing to travel within that region regularly to organize and engage membership face-to-face.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct Outreach: The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer will be responsible for direct and regular outreach to volunteers through phone calls, text messages, and emails.

  • Training: The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer will be responsible for providing the training and supplies necessary for our volunteers to succeed. This requires clear communication and attention to detail.

  • Recruitment: The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer will work closely with the Political  Director to recruit volunteers for campaign activities, including but not limited to door knocking, phonebanking, LTE submission, and event attendance.

  • Tracking: The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer will be responsible for tracking volunteer contact information and engagement in EveryAction. They will be responsible for managing regional event calendars.

  • Communications: The Southwestern Montana Regional Organizer will work alongside the Communications Director and Political Director to ensure volunteer efforts are captured and included in social media and other communications. 

  • Other duties as assigned: As with all organizing jobs, additional duties may be assigned that are not listed. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for building political engagement in Montana;

  • Experience recruiting, managing, and training volunteers in-person and remotely;

  • Demonstrated ability to execute tasks independently while working well with a team in a fast-paced and evolving campaign environment;

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and balance priorities in an evolving campaign environment;

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends and serve as a point-of-contact for members;

  • Commitment to clear communication in speech and writing, and a keen attention to detail;

  • Demonstrated ability to balance priorities when facing emergent changes or challenges;

  • Ability to exhibit respect and professionalism while interfacing with diverse constituencies.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • History of work with diverse coalitions that represent Republicans, Democrats, and Independent voices;

  • Experience engaging in campaigns, non-profit field work, or related activities;

  • Experience organizing (in Montana preferred).

  • The ideal candidate lives in Silver Bow, Deer Lodge, Powell, Jefferson, Granite, Ravalli, or Missoula Counties, with a preference for locations outside the city of Missoula

 

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Salary: $4,000 a month.

  • Type: This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position that will end in the middle of November unless additional funding becomes available.

  • Benefits: This position qualifies for a Gold Health Insurance program paid for by Big Sky 55+ for the employee, with an option to add dependents at the employee’s cost. This temporary position does not last long enough to qualify for other benefits. 

  • Preferred Start Date: ASAP

Polson-Kalispell-Whitefish Area Regional Organizer
